Metal Roofing

Metal Roofing Perth

Zincalume and Colorbond installation, repairs and inspections from a team that knows both tile and metal inside out.

Metal roofing, or tin roofs, come in two major steel materials — Zincalume and Colorbond. It's quite simple, but the main difference is more or less the colour. Zincalume roofs give you that typical aluminium 'tin' look, whereas Colorbond gives you more variety when it comes to colour.

Although our team at Roof Repairs Perth WA consists of highly specialised tile roofing experts, we are still consistently producing just as good quality work when it comes to metal roofing. So don't be scared to contact us for your metal roofing enquiries.

Metal Roofing Installation

Picture a new installation of Zincalume roof sheeting over a garage area. The roof sheets must be installed with the correct gradient to allow rainwater to drain off towards the end where the gutter is located.

The roof sheets must also be fixed securely with roofing screws to the timbers or steel framework beneath. Flashings will be used to finish off edges to mitigate water ingress along with aesthetic benefits.

The way a completed roof looks is just as important as the job it is doing — keeping you dry.

Advantages of metal roofing

Being metal roofs, both Zincalume and Colorbond share the many advantages over their tile roof counterparts. The main advantages being energy efficiency, withstanding extreme weather conditions, termite resistance, lower maintenance and a longer lifespan than other roofing materials.

Having said that, metal roofing has its own handful of disadvantages over tile roofs. A big one being that it is more pricey to install. A common misconception is that people assume having a tin or metal roof automatically makes them immune to roof leaks — this is a big fat myth. Sure, you can argue metal roofs do a better job overall, but they still leak too.

Faulty fixings

We were once called by a customer who was experiencing water stains on the ceilings inside her property. Upon investigating we found roofing screws had been installed incorrectly. Some fixings had been screwed down far too tightly, causing the metal sheet to become damaged. Some had been installed at the wrong angle, which pushes the rubber seal out of position.

You may think an incorrect angle of a screw is not a problem, but the correct position, fixing pressure and angle make the difference between a water tight roof and a water damaged ceiling.
